Course Overview
Objective:
Learn to analyze, support, and lead the technology systems that power restaurant operations.
You’ll work through a sequence of real-world assignments, building your own Restaurant Systems Blueprintportfolio step-by-step.
Part 1 — Foundations
Read: The Four Pillars of Restaurant Systems
Task 1:
Write your own definition of a “system.”
Draw a diagram showing how restaurant systems connect: people → process → technology → data.
Deliverable:
Your Restaurant Systems Map.
Part 2 — POS & Front-of-House Operations
Read: The Point-of-Sale as the System Core
Task 2:
List the major functions of a POS platform (menu, pricing, labor, reporting).
Explain how a single change—like a menu update—flows through the system.
Deliverable:
A POS Data Flow Document tracing one update from entry → reporting.
Part 3 — Integrations & Data Flow
Read: Connecting the Kitchen, Back Office, and Vendors
Task 3:
Identify at least five systems that typically integrate in a restaurant (POS, KDS, back office, payroll, vendor portal, online ordering, etc.).
Draw or outline how data moves between them.
Deliverable:
Your System Integration Map.
Part 4 — Support & Ticket Lifecycle
Read: How to Manage Restaurant Tech Incidents
Task 4:
Create a mock ticket showing the full lifecycle: New → In Progress → Resolved → Closed.
Include: description, troubleshooting steps, resolution notes.
Deliverable:
Your Incident Ticket Log.
Part 5 — Leadership & Project Management
Read: From Technician to Systems Leader
Task 5:
Choose a small restaurant-tech project (menu rollout, new KDS deployment, or vendor integration).
Define objectives, milestones, roles, and risks.
Deliverable:
Your Systems Project Plan.
Final Project — The Restaurant Systems Blueprint
Combine all deliverables into one polished portfolio:
- Restaurant Systems Map
- POS Data Flow Document
- System Integration Map
- Incident Ticket Log
- Systems Project Plan
Submit it as your Restaurant Systems Blueprint, demonstrating readiness to manage real-world restaurant technology environments.
Completion Outcome
After finishing, you’ll be able to:
- Visualize how restaurant systems connect.
- Troubleshoot and document technology issues clearly.
- Lead cross-functional tech projects.
- Communicate technical insights to operations and leadership teams.
